Threat Outbreak Alert: Fake Bank od China Balance Notification E-mail Messages

Description

Cisco Security Intelligence Operations has detected significant activity related to spam e-mail messages that claim to contain a bank balance notification for the recipient. The text in the e-mail message attempts to convince the recipient to open the attachment and view the details. However, the .rar attachment contains a malicious .scr file that, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

E-mail messages that are related to this threat (RuleID5425) may contain any of the following files:
swift.rar
attachment.scr
The attachment.scr file in the swift.rar attachment has a file size of 28,864 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0xAC92C06E128A3D2E4221387118D5B7D7

The following text section is a sample of the e-mail message that is associated with this threat outbreak:
Subject: Dear Customer - T/T Swift

Message Body:

Dear Customer,
Your outstanding balance has just been transferred into your account. The total amount is USD38,550 but the account information is incorrect.
To avoid remittance error, we urge you to confirm the account details of the MT103 Transfer Swift which has been attach along with this message, kindly download and confirm the amount to be remitted for corrections.
