Threat Outbreak Alert: Fake Vehicle Repair Claim Notification E-mail Messages

Description

Cisco Security Intelligence Operations has detected significant activity related to spam e-mail messages that claim to contain a vehicle repair claim notification for the recipient. The text in the e-mail message attempts to convince the recipient to open the attachment and view the details. However, the .exe attachment, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

E-mail messages that are related to this threat (RuleID5492) may contain any of the following files:
MILLER JEFF SUPP4829.36.exe

The MILLER JEFF SUPP4829.36.exe attachment has a file size of 286,720 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0x785C97DCB672F8654283FEB1039979D9

The following text section is a sample of the e-mail message that is associated with this threat outbreak:
Subject: Supplement for Claim #0197310290101035 on Jeff Miller

Message Body:

Hi Eric : Here is a small supplement on the above claim number for Jeff Miller's 2001 Toyota Camry. I've also attached some photos that would show what other items would need to be R & I'd to facilitate the repair operations. The amount of the supplement is for 248.54. If you should have any questions or require any additional information please let me kmow.
