Threat Outbreak Alert: Fake Fraudulent Visa Credit Card Transactions Notification E-mail Messages

Description

Cisco Security Intelligence Operations has detected significant activity related to spam e-mail messages that claim to contain a credit card transaction notification for the recipient. The text in the e-mail message attempts to persuade the recipient to open the attachment and view the details. However, the .zip attachment contains a malicious .exe file that, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

E-mail messages that are related to this threat (RuleID5873) may contain the following files:
04232013.exe
04232013.zip


The 04232013.exe file in the 04232013.zip attachment has a file size of 135,680 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0xA6278E4A890D15220FAF8E668ECF6564

Message Body:

Dear Visa card holder,
A recent review of your transaction history determined that your card was used in possible fraudulent transactions. For security reasons the requested transactions were refused. Please carefully review electronic report for your VISA card.
